The Ability of the EPR MOUSE to Study Underpaintings

The possibility of using the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) mobile universal surface explorer (MOUSE) to study underpaintings is validated. depth sensitivity EPR MOUSE measured an standard, and verified three pigments in acrylic binder under opaque layers titanium white lead white. ability distinguish identify two signal-bearing shown pairwise sets ultramarine, Egyptian, Han blue binder. And finally, spatial imaging capability demonstrated a printed design magnetite black covered with solid second layer pigment. These studies demonstrate that spectroscopy viable method for studying ferrimagnetic underlayers pigments.
